General Information
Our Family Wellbeing Practitioners provide practical and emotional support to not only mothers but the whole family, including the extended family (i.e grandparents, aunties and uncles) wherever the need is to help those with children under 18 years old.
We discovered there was more need in mental health services in this area while we were delivering the Mums Matter programme. It became evident that Mums, and often Dads too, needed additional support either before during or after the programme had finished. Mental health issues can affect the whole family but if support is accessed at the time it is needed this can reduce the impact on the whole family.
We can offer support in our centre in Brecon or a community venue, wherever feels more comfortable. This can also be tailored to your needs. This 1:1 confidential support by Sarah our Family Support Practitioner and our Wellbeing Team varies depending on what help is needed. This may be just to talk and be listened to, gain relevant information, support, be signposted or to be referred to other supporting services for additional help within Brecon and District Mind or to other external services.
How Can it Help?
Family issues can be very complex at times and may need us to pull in the support and expertise of other organisations such as Calan Domestic Abuse services or the Community Mental Health Team or alternatively they may wish to be referred to other services that we offer within Brecon Mind such as Counselling or the Wellbeing service.
By supporting the family holistically at an early stage when problems arise, it is more likely that they will be able to find solutions or coping mechanisms or strategies that may reduce the impact on the children.
