An inspiring visit to ITV Wales

Colleagues from Mind Cymru and local Minds in Wales spent the afternoon behind the scenes at ITV Wales to explore how broadcast media works and look at how we can strengthen our storytelling.

On March 4th, Mind Cymru welcomed colleagues from across local Minds in Wales to go behind the scenes at ITV Wales for an inspirational learning and skills session in the newsroom.

This visit looked to build upon local Mind media training piloted in October 2025 in partnership with Front Door Communications, working with local Minds to develop the necessary skills and confidence to engage with the media across Wales.

Representatives from Brecon & District Mind, Llanelli Mind, Mind in Gwent, and Neath Port Talbot Mind, along with Louis Watkins of skincare brand Clear For Men, came together to explore how broadcast media works and how we can strengthen our storytelling across Wales.

The wonderful team at ITV Wales took time out to share their expertise, and provide invaluable insight into the newsroom function.

A special mention to Chris Ferrier (Llanelli Mind) and Ali Curzon (Brecon & District Mind) for bravely stepping into the hot seat for an interview with ITV Wales health correspondent Katie Fenton – both turning out to be naturals in front of the camera!

A big thank you to Jess Childs, our Senior Media Officer in Wales who engaged ITV colleagues to make the visit possible and as a result of ongoing engagement with ITV Wales’ Diversity Panel.

We are really grateful to all those involved in supporting partnerships like these, which help build confidence, skills and visibility for all the vital mental health work that’s happening right now in communities across Wales.
