Brecon and District Mind supports people in the community affected by mental illness and distress. We offer a range of services and our diverse staff team will be able to help you with whatever issues you are facing. We accept self – referrals so please call us on 01874 611529 to get in touch and arrange some support. Please take a look at our services page to find the support that is right for you.

How We Work

We provide our services in four places within the Brecon Beacons National Park in mid-Wales, our centre in Brecon, Hay-on-Wye, Talgarth and Crickhowell. The people who make use of our services are at the heart of the  organisation. Our services are delivered by an experienced and friendly team of staff and volunteers, overseen by  a Senior Management Team and the Board of Trustees; and supported by an active Friends Group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How do I access Mind Brecon & District services?

A1: You can download our referral form and send it in, drop us an email or just give us a ring – CONTACT DETAILS

Q2: Do I have to pay for the support?

A2: No, the majority of our services are free of charge. We want to ensure everyone has access to mental health support when they need it. If you are able to make a donation towards the support you have received this will enable us to reach even more people in our community. However due to the expenses’ required to provide the service there is a fee for our counselling service

Q3: Can I volunteer for Brecon and District Mind?

A3: Yes! We have a number of voluntary roles available. More info is available on GET INVOLVED! or email us on [email protected]

Q4: What do I do if I need support out of office hours?

A4: For mental health support on the phone out of office hours call the NHS helpline on 111 and then choose option 2. You can also call the Community Advice and Listening Line (CALL) 24/7 on 0800 132 737 or you can text ‘help’ followed by a question to 81066. The Samaritans’ phone number is 116 123 or you can text SHOUT to 85258 for Shout’s messaging support.

Q5: How quickly can I be seen?

A5: Drop in to our Brecon centre on a weekday 1-4pm and there will be a Wellbeing Practitioner on hand to chat with. If you’d like to talk privately with a Wellbeing Practitioner it’s best to make an appointment and that may take a little longer. Some services can be accessed within a week and we can always offer ongoing wellbeing support while you wait.

Q6: Can I bring a friend/ family member with me?

A6: Yes! We appreciate that making the first step to ask for help takes a lot of courage and you are therefore welcome to bring someone with you for additional support, even a well-behaved canine pal.

Q7: What do I do if the support doesn’t help?

A7: Different things help different people. Sometimes it involves a bit of trial and error to find the right support for you. It’s important to be open to a range of options and our staff can help you decide on the right approach. Most importantly – stay hopeful! We’re here to help.

Q8: What do I do if I’m worried about my mental health?

A8: Talk to someone you trust. This could be your GP, a friend or family member. Our Wellbeing Practitioners are on hand; to listen and help you work out whatever’s going on for you and access the right support for you.

Q9: Do you have parking?

A9: Unfortunately not at our Community Wellbeing Centre in Brecon. Morrison’s supermarket offers a pay and display car park and is within a minute of our centre.
