Volunteer FAQS

Q1: Who can volunteer with Brecon and District Mind?

A1: Anyone with an interest in social care or just wants to help local people struggling with poor mental health. You don’t need any previous experience just a caring outgoing attitude and open listening mind.

Q2: Do I get support as a volunteer?

A2: Yes. All volunteers are given training and support appropriate to the role. Ongoing supervision is done by key staff in the team supported by the Operations Manager and CEO.

Q3: Can I join just one volunteer project, or do I have to join them all?

A3: You can join any individual group you want or a selection of different volunteer projects.

Q4: Is it possible to swap to a different volunteer role after I’ve started?

A4: Of course, dependant on training, if you decide to leave one group and join another that is fine or stay on the first group and combine it with others that is also fine.

Q5: Are there set times I will have to do to be a volunteer?

A5: No but certain groups only run on certain days so if you want to join them you must come when they are on, but there is no commitment for certain number of hours

Q6: Can I claim travel expenses?

A6: Any expenses will be discussed and agreed upon on an individual basis with the CEO and Volunteer.

Q7: What do I do if I cannot make an arranged time?

A7: Please inform the staff that you cannot make it with as much notice as possible.

Q8: What happens after I apply for a volunteer role?

A8: After we have received your completed application form, we will contact you to arrange an induction meeting. After this, if the volunteer role requires it, we may also request a DBS check for you along with references.

Q9: Will I receive training for volunteering?

A9: Yes, for most roles that require training you will be given guidance and advice, and in certain cases training courses can be arranged.
